ADVENTURES IN OPPORTUNISTIC PROFITEERING: Why conceding doesn’t make sense

It makes perfectly good sense for President Trump to NOT concede the election.  How would it profit him to do so?  It is clear to see that in order for President Trump to maximize profits, the best course of action is to continue to contest the election.  This is the correct course of action for him to take.  I’m not saying this is the best course of action for the country, but it is the best course of action for President Trump. I’m sure everyone can agree that President Trump's number one priority is himself.  This is abundantly clear from his many words and deeds over the past several years.  This is not to say he doesn’t hold other priorities, some of which may serve to benefit the country.  His top priorities are his image, his ego, and his wealth.  Within this context, how does it make sense for him to concede the election?  It doesn’t. How is he profiteering from refusing to concede?  His new PAC, Save America, is bringing in tens...

What if we treated voting rights like we treat athletic competitions?

I came up with a new team sport.  Like many team sports, this one determines the winner by accumulation of points, where the team with the most points wins.  Points are scored by placing a ball in one of the designated team “goals” (a box) within the defined period of time. One team has 10 players, each of whom has a ball, and must walk to, and place their ball in one of 3 designated goals, one at a time.  Another team member cannot approach a goal, until the referee has registered the goal and removed the ball.  There is a referee at each goal.  This team has one minute to place their balls in the goals. The other team has 8 players, each of which has a ball, and must walk to, and place their ball in their single designated goal, one at a time. Another team member cannot approach a goal, until the referee has registered the goal and removed the ball.  This team has 30 seconds to place their balls in the goal. The playing court is arranged as shown in...

If we’re striving to be inoffensive, shouldn’t we go all in?

So I was reading an article about this American country pop band, which recently changed their name to remove one of the words in their band name, which can be considered offensive and even racist.  The name of this band included a term used to refer to the American south, which started with a D, ended with an E, and is five letters long, and includes the letters I, X, and another I (not necessarily in that order).  It’s no longer a word that can be said (I think), so I can’t spell it out or say it.  So now, this band has a new two word name.  As I read the article, it occurred to me that one of the other words in their band name can also be considered offensive.  In order to not offend, I won’t say it, or spell it out, but it is considered by many to be a derogatory term used to refer to women, and is also a term used to refer to baby chickens.  The word starts with a C, ends with an S, and is six letters long, including the letters, H, I, C, and K (not...

Why it makes sense for Christians to not wear face masks

I see a lot of people exhorting non-mask wearers to wear a mask.  I know many Christians are wearing masks – out in public, and in group assemblies.  At the same time, I know there are many Christians who are not wearing masks in public or in group assemblies.  While this may seem confusing, there might be a good rationale for Christians to choose to not wear a mask in public or in group assemblies.  Here is my best attempt to provide that rationale: I love God with all my heart by not wearing a face mask in public during a growing viral pandemic—this is an act of my love towards God, according to the greatest commandment ( Matthew 22: 37-38 ).  I love my neighbor as myself when I do not wear a face mask in public during a growing viral pandemic—this is an act of my love towards my neighbors, according to the second greatest commandment ( Matthew 22: 39 ).  Moreover, I demonstrate my humility and valuing others above my own interests by not wearing a face...
