Why ‘Tim the Enchanter’

Tim the Enchanter refers to a character in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  The two scenes involving this character are easily located on YouTube.  Why him?  He’s a Tim, and it’s sort of fitting in some ways.  Note – I’m not a wizard, but I do like fireworks.  I might also take you to places that seem innocent enough, and provide something you think you might be looking for, but you might end up running away (hopefully unscathed).

It’s difficult to tell if I’m being serious

Let’s be careful not to repeat the Fall of Man

I feel like I’m watching an ongoing rerun of the story of Adam and Eve, and the Fall of Man. I have this image in my head that there are many seemingly important issues calling out for our attention and devotion, which are not from God, and are not part of God’s will for those who claim to be in relationship with God.  I see many people fully engaged in these issues, even Christians.  We all have a choice what to focus our attention on.  It doesn’t feel to me that these issues actually warrant the attention, time, and resources of the Christian community. The message of the story of Adam and Eve is how humankind, initially in relationship with their Creator, turns away from God and towards other things which are not meant to have our attention; things that were not intended for our consumption - things that ultimately lead to humankind's separation from God.    (Public domain) Is not the story of Adam and Eve the story of all of us?  Who can say they haven’...

Jesus is my vaccine?

I ran across this quote yesterday, from an interview with pastor and televangelist John Hagee in November 2020, after he recovered from a very serious bout with COVID-19, which resulted in 15 days of hospitalization. "We have a vaccine; the name is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. Let Him sweep through this country and heal the righteous who dare to ask for it. Heal our church members. Restore them rapidly. Let the name of Jesus Christ be exalted because He is Lord over all."  Here’s a link to a video of the church service where he made this statement , if you’re interested.  This quote has left me with a number of questions, as I consider the implications of Pastor Hagee’s declaration.  I don’t ask these questions with intent to mock, but I do feel influential church leaders need to reflect carefully on their words, knowing that many people are listening and looking for guidance.  I’m not suggesting any believer put more weight on the words of a pastor than...
